Helping Parents Prepare for the MS Semester Ahead
We have concluded our first semester. As educators, this is a time for us to pause and reflect on the first semester, so we can see what went well and where we can improve for the second semester. This is also a time for students and families to pause, reflect, and then prepare for a strong second semester.
We have all returned from a long Christmas holiday break to wrap up the first semester. Not too far in our future (just a few weeks), we’ll have another holiday break to celebrate the Chinese New Year. As parents, this is a great time for us to reflect on our part in our child’s education. As one of the three stakeholders in the child’s education, along with the child and the school, we have a role in helping our children succeed in Middle School.

From this article by Harvard University’s, Dr. Claire McCarthy, parents get a great reminder of the areas we can focus on to support our children. In her article, Dr. McCarthy is targeting what parents of middle school students can do to support, including supporting schoolwork and socializing, supporting healthy habits, and strengthening bonds-yours and theirs.
We all know how challenging it can be to parent a Middle School-aged child. They’re going through so many changes, physically, emotionally, socially, and academically, it is certainly hard to navigate the right thing to do in every situation. We hope that reading and reflecting on this article will help you as parents have a better roadmap of how to support your child in this new semester.
As we mentioned above, the school is one of the stakeholders in your child’s education, so we are your partners in helping your child to be successful in Middle School. We look forward to partnering with you more in the future.
