Zeitgeist: A SUPERIOR Magazine
Concordia's high school literary magazine, Zeitgeist, has been awarded the distinction of a SUPERIOR magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) REALM award.
This year, schools in 44 states and six countries nominated 456 student magazines. Magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education were welcomed for the 2025 contest.
Zeitgeist literary magazine exists to promote and give an outlet for our student writers and artists at Concordia. For many of our writers this is the first time they have seen their name in print, and publication in Zeitgeist helps to continue to shape our students' identities as artists and makers. Each semester, Zeitgeist accepts submissions in poetry, nonfiction, and fiction from across the high school student body as well as all genres of visual art for consideration for publication in our literary magazine. Students who are a part of the editorial staff select, edit, and lay out the magazine, learning skills in publication. We print copies of the magazine for display in the high school lobby and other parts of the school.
The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.
We are so pleased that Zeitgeist Spring 2025 issue was awarded such a high distinction and look forward to submitting this year's issue to the contest.
