CISSMUN XV: A Chorus of Change
This year’s CISSMUN event was a vibrant celebration of global dialogue, drawing over 750 student delegates from around Shanghai, China, and across the world. Participants represented a wide range of cultures and perspectives, with students traveling from countries including Russia, Bulgaria, Spain, Tunisia, Japan, and the Philippines. The diversity of voices created an atmosphere that truly reflected the spirit of international cooperation.
Held at Concordia each year, CISSMUN offers students the opportunity to step into the roles of diplomats, debating pressing global issues, and practicing the skills of negotiation, critical thinking, and public speaking. Committees addressed topics such as climate change, international security, humanitarian aid, and economic development, representing eighteen different real-world UN committees. Throughout the sessions, delegates worked tirelessly to draft resolutions, form alliances, and find solutions that balanced national interests with global responsibility, making friends along the way.
Beyond the formal debates, the event also included a keynote panel including Mr. David Guillermo Gamarra Silva, Peru Consulate General, Ms. Meng Liu, member of the UN Global Compact, and our own Dr. Shameen Prashantham, professor of International Business & Strategy and Associate Dean (Africa) at China Europe International Business School. As part of the discussion, they were able to give invaluable insight into the real-world application of government policy and business initiatives in the developing world.
This year’s CISSMUN was more than just another Model United Nations conference. It was a powerful reminder that young people are capable of thoughtful leadership and meaningful collaboration. CISSMUN once again proves that the next generation of Concordia students is ready to engage, lead, and make a difference on the world stage.
